Build a Company from Scratch, Ideal Opportunity for Growth at Work

CHRO/CHO

EMIKO SUMIKAWA

Emiko Sumikawa serves as a Nextbeat chief human resource officer (CHRO) and chief health officer (CHO). She graduate of Tokyo University Graduate School of Medicine. During studies, participated in conducting research on how to help support developing countries with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) in Laos. Currently, mother of a 2-year-old.
Prior to Nextbeat, she Joined DeNA in 2011 to 2016, during which time she oversaw business development, new graduates hiring, application marketing.

Proactive Vision for Strategy Making

Among the number of start-ups, there are several reasons why I joined nextbeat Co. The greatest draw that I felt was the strategic planning and company policy. While putting out a diverse vision, nextbeat has a concrete business plan based on macro trends and various business factors. Compare to other start-ups I have always felt ,from the time when I was participating as a consultant, that we have a ideal balance between business and vision creation.I got involved with the company in its second year after the company’s establishment, everything was really at an unbelievable level of chaos (lol). I recognized that here is the real startup, starting from a “state of zero” (truly nothing), indispensable experience. My previous company is known as a venture, but nothing like what I experience here, well organized. 4 years have passed since then, but chaos never ends just changing its nature according to rapid growth of the company.

To commit both Company and Personal Growth

Business environment is changing constantly, and every one of us are required to update one’s knowledge and values. I value people who is skilled at acknowledgement and flexible decision making. This is why we focus hiring new graduates who tend to have strong flexibility to fit or to create nextbeat culture. I want to organize an environment where employees are highly motivated. As a head of HR, I am developing an evaluation guideline in which people who commit to results are fairly evaluated. To improve high level of productivity, I also work on executing work efficiency program or health management program.

We welcome, Innovator to take Initiative!

Since joining in the 2nd year since establishment, up until now, we have been confronting upcoming difficulties. Even if we come up with solution, next day another issue will come up with more critical impact. Establishing a company and business from zero is just like that. If one stops to improve, company will also stop growing. The fact that one’s individual growth is tied to the company’s growth means that, honestly, there is a lot of pressure. However, it is true that this environment, repeating trial and error every single day, will make oneself  overwhelmingly strong. We welcome candidates to our company who wants to gain real power, those who want to continue the challenge with venture spirit.
